With a hiatus on Workshops due to the pesky pandemic, Ballarat Community Garden are pleased to present Workshops again in 2024. In this Garlic Planting and Tasting Workshop, you will get to taste garlic cultivators that are from Canada, Uzbekistan, South Korea, Vietnam and Italy…. Yes, you will travel the world through your taste buds. Workshops run by Vele Civijovski of Garlic Kingdom Australia and Melissa Mortimer of The Paddock Lal Lal. Proudly hosted by Ballarat Community Garden Vele is a small to medium scale producer planting 20k plants each year at Badja Forest Farm, specialising in rare, cool climate varieties. Winner of 6 awards at the 2023 Australian Garlic Awards and also runs Garlic Kingdom as a garlic product distributor, mentor and trainer. The Paddock Lal Lal is a local small-scale producer, aiming to plant over 300kg of garlic in 2024. Successfully growing Turban, Creole and Standard purple strip varieties Join Ballarat Community Garden, The Paddock Lal Lal and The Garlic Kingdom for an informative, fun workshop at our beautiful Community Garden, as we learn about: What and when to Plant Garlic in our cool Ballarat climate. As well as how to prepare your garden bed, select seeds and prepare cloves for a successful season. We will even talk about how to care for your Garlic throughout the season. In the tasting workshop we will learn about the 11 different subgroups of garlic, cultivators and decide which is better, purple or white garlic. We will get to taste raw garlic and discuss it’s uses as well as sample beautiful garlic salts and smoked varieties Limited spots - booking essential. This event will be hosted rain hail or shine! Please wear all-seasons gear & rug up. The Garden is on corner of Queens Pde and Dyte Pde, Ballarat East (45 Dyte Pde). Plenty of parking + access to PT nearby.
